On Sunday we spent the day on the campus of the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where I went to school years ago. We toured the campus with the kids on a beautiful day. I took them to my old haunts, including here, the Graduate Library, where I spent countless hours studying in the reference room. Just across the hall was the main card catalog, which of course has been replaced in most libararies with an online searchable database. My daughter, despite being fascinated by books and libraries in general, had never seen or touched a card catalog before. So we looked for a few things here and there, and she thought it incredible that that was the way we looked for things only a few years ago!
