Here's the view down the Mall, having just turned around from the vantage point I had in yesterday's shot.

This is the view of the very front of the masses of people on the Mall, and I understand that there were some 1.8 million people back there. The undulating crowd was an amazing sight, and I have seen many crowded places. What was more fascinating was the complete and total silence of the crowd both around me and in the masses behind me during the speeches and the swearing-in. It was very similar to the eerie silence during the speeches in Grant Park here in Chicago
But the enthusiasm and genuine feeling of community, hope and celebration was clear on the faces of every person you saw...
