Nikon D2X

Capture Date/Time:March 27, 2007 15:02
Aperture/Shutter Speed: 1/6000 sec, f2.0
Focal Length: 85 mm
ISO: 100
Flash: none

This is one of those images where I quick-drew my camera at just the right moment. I adjusted the settings on the fly without thinking and managed to get a decent capture, although I would have preferred a much slower shutter speed and a moment to read the histogram. But, what the image lacks in technical quality I think it makes up in what it calls to my mind. Here, my youngest, who is pretty terrified of big dogs (unlike the other kids), decided to brave it and get to know Kirby, his great-uncle's 14-month-old white Lab. We visited them on their farm during our trip last week to Maryland, and this four-legged guy was clearly in charge of the place. Getting a shot of that dog sitting still was just as challenging as getting a shot of the little man sitting still. For there to be a moment like this...

I love the tenderness here... not only of your son but the dog being quiet enough to let your son touch him. A touching moment.
