First of all, HAPPY 2007! Thanks to all of you for visiting in the past year, and I promise that the coming year will be full of new and more frequent images!

Year-end has been very busy for us, and I had to take a very brief break from this blog for a few days. It's good to be back!

So, why start the new year with a picture of a shrimp? Well, to kick off the new year and send out the old, our neighbors (and dear friends) plan an annual multi-course FEAST of the highest caliber. We, like them, are serious foodies, and this year was the first year that we were able to attend this wonderful event. So, I thought I'd share some of what we experienced last night (and this morning) over the next day or two.

Our neighbor supplies produce from his nearby orchard to eateries and grocers here in the city, and knows many of the chefs at some of the finest restaurants in town. Thus, many of the courses in the meal were inspired by these chefs. For a bit more perspective, there were some 12 courses and 9 wines throughout the meal (my head still aches)...

Notwithstanding the fact that these were "inspired" recipes, I must say that our neighbors modified them with their own touches and amazingly innovative ideas. This one, inspired by May Street Market restaurant, is a spiced prawn staked on top of a piece of applewood from the orchard. As a plus for getting its apples from the Seedling orchard, the restaurant gets applewood for use in its smoker. In this dish, the applewood is torched just before serving to give off a wonderful aroma while consuming the prawn.

Very nice shot. Is the noise added or was it there to begin with

Navin- it was originally a very noisy shot. I didn't want to ruin the atmosphere by my flash going off all night. I managed to get the noise balanced off more uniformly through a combination of the NR software and the sharpener.
