This is my youngest taking a nap next to my wife on a beach towel near the beach yesterday. Yes, he still sucks his thumb. We have to get rid of that habit in the next couple of months, and it's not going to be easy. He only does it when he's tired or sleeping. It's the last vestige of his being a little baby, and with him more than likely being our last offspring, I must admit that I'll be sad when he's done with it. As you can tell, he can never get close enough to his mom.

Very sweet! Don't force him. He will grow soon enough !

What a beautiful and tender shot! B&W gives it a great evocative power.

Interesting composition that empasises the ahhh (as opposed to arrgh!!) factor of this beatiful image. We cut our 2 year olds hair at the weekend and all of a sudden he is a little man and not a baby.

Aww, this is such a sweet moment you've captured. My 2 yo still loves the binky. I have a hard time with taking it away from her too. I don't want her to grow up too fast!

Good evening Mike.
Thx for posting in mistralcolorS.
I always appreciate it.
No panic with this habits...he will forget it. This anxiety seems to be found on the position of his mom. I love this shot man!

ah! awesome focus on the texture. nice timing, i like the way your son was intently focusing on his mother's back. but more than the neckline, my eyes keep coming back on your wife's hair. looks good on B&W, hehe!

definitely my favorite shot of yours!!! such an intimate moment, really conveyed by the soft skins, and I love how you can see her hand along with his.

OK, I just have to ask...what beach did you go to? Are you on vacation? Cause I know you're from Chicago and I'm in DC so the weather from there to here is pretty much the same? LOL! Well if you're on vacation, have fun and can't wait to see those vacation pictures.

BTW, I was a thumb sucker when I was a child and my parents did everything to have me quit sucking my thumb...they put tobasco sauce, put mittens on me...tied my arms...LOL...but you know what, one day I just stopped...no one telling me not to or forcing me...I think when they all left me alone I just stopped :-)

Nice capture without them knowing.

03.24.06, 03:40 PM, Duane Bong:

Aw... that's so sweet. I remember I used to habit of sucking my thumb too - didn't drop the habit until I was about 10.

Nice.

A really fascinating composition! With the youngest now 9 I can identify wiith sadly passing milestones fo rthe last time.

I absolutely love this! Was this posed?

Excellent picture that most likely will be one of your most valuable pictures of your photo-albums in the future. About the thumb sucking: I don't think you'll have much effect to changing the habit with the exception of driving it underground and possibly affecting self-esteem. From my experience, it will either stop on it's own and become something done in solitude. I like the high-key effect of the background, that's one component that makes the shot work so well.

This is such a great photo Mike. The composition is just spectacular and the black and white toning is perfect. A very sublime photo for a gentle moment. Great treatment.
