One more shot from this weekend's chess tournament. Do these look like chess players to you? I think not. Unbeknownst to the chess tournament planners, the U.S. Cheerleading National Championships were held in the exhibition hall right next door at Navy Pier. The noise was unbelievable during the height of the championship, and there were pixie girls running around with ponytails, sparkles on their faces and cheerleading outfits. It was an amazing contrast to the intense intellectual competition just a few dozen yards away. (I'm not saying that cheerleading is not an intellectual endavor, of course... Just a different one). Anyway, here is a local club getting ready to practice in a vacant hall.

I can see why you were distracted from the chess!

I knew they weren't here to cheer for the chess tournament...

Hey Gary-

They were only distracting due to their loud screeching and sparkly makeup. Other than that, they were no older than *twelve*!

Ilike the way some of the girls are looking intensly at something/body. Great capture.

What are the ladies on the far right steering at?

Gosh I was thinking wow, even chess players have cheerleaders! Sounds like an interesting mix to have going on at the same time!

LOL - that's quite hilarious!

Title.. photo.. furrowed brow of wonder.. I thought you were going to tell me this was the visiting soviet team :-)

I am glad you caught this and talked about the contrast between the two 'activities.' I was always the 'chess' kid (although I played basket ball most of my school years) and I loathed the types of girls that thought sparkle was a good idea. But that was based on their personalities, not on their choice of activities and skin products. And not all of the girls were raving idiots, just some.

How cool! This picture tells a story. They definitely look like they're up to something.

I word "clones" came to mind. Interesting photograph, they look worried about the other team.
