Nikon D2X

Focal Length: 17mm
Aperture/Shutter Speed: F/9 - 50 sec
ISO: 100
Flash: None

I wandered the beach a couple of days ago in the middle of the night looking for some long-exposure opportunities. Here was one of the ones I am most pleased with. One thing about Chicago is that the whole place, including the beaches, is bathed in so much light from streetlamps and such. It is nearly impossible to get an exposure of longer than one minute in any particular spot. I couldn't believe how deserted the beach was; even in the middle of winter there's usually at least a few people walking around. Anyway, it was much colder than I thought, and I froze my keester off. It was frustrating to try and move the buttons on the camera with my fingers so numb.

No doubt people will stay away from the water when it's cold. I like the silky smooth texture in the sky. What is the object in the foreground?

OK - this is beautiful and I'm so glad you understand why I post almost no outdoor shots during the wintertime. If you think it's cold there . . .

This is delightfull and well worth the cold experience. you have made a really intersting photo out of what could easily have been overlooked. The lighting and colours are great.

How do you meter your night shots??
