This is a portrait of my good friend Mike P., who has been my barber for almost ten years. Mike's shop is nestled in a huge old building within the financial district of the Chicago Loop. I work on the other side of the downtown area, yet I travel through traffic to see him at least a couple of times a month. His shop has windows that don't have much of a view, so sitting in his barber chair, with his big band music playing on his stereo and old barber equipement hanging around, really makes time stand still. It is relaxing to go in there in the middle of a crazy workday.

Mike is a long-time south-sider, with so many experiences and stories of life in the city, growing up in Chicago neighborhoods in an Italian family. He has cut hair for a long time, and he has great stories of the people who have visited his barber shop over the years. I very much look forward to our chats.

Good environmental portrait. I ike these sort of shots showing people in their natural habitat.

He has a very friendly smile. The of the b+w effect conversion looks like infrared.
