I have been experimenting with studio portraits for a long time, and I think I finally have enough nerve to post one here. This is from a photo session for some great friends of ours a couple of weeks ago. The post-processing is minimal other than the gradient conversion. This little guy was just a fantastic subject (what a great smile!), and the challenge was to get his hair lit the right way to get it to show up from the background. I didn't want to use a hair highlight because that looked too studio-ey, so to speak. Anyway, I may post some more in the future... Hope all is well with everyone.

I sure would be pretty happy with this. Studio shots are not really my thing, but I like the simpleness of this one. And agree, excellent smile.

I really like this. Studio shots are B O R I N G - this is much nicer!

Great light. This is good.

Obviously you made this lad very comfortable in front of your lens and that is a MAJOR part of great portraits.

i like this shot. i like the fact that you chose to print this using a landscape size, there's enough space to show the child's wavy hair. nice contrast too.

I think it turned out very well. You caught a great natural smile. I would be curious to see more portrait shots since I'm planning to get into it myself once I get my 50mm f1.8 lens.
