Nikon D2X

Capture Date/Time: October 9, 2005 8:44
Focal Length: 200 mm
Aperture/Shutter Speed: F/2.8 - 1/640 sec
ISO: 250
Flash: None

The aftermath of 40,000 runners grabbing a drink after the first few miles. An unbelievable number of cups, volunteers and mess. The street is soaked and slippery with gatorade and water during the race, and when you run by the water stations you need to be very careful not to slip and fall. The ground gets so wet that it looks like it rained heavily. The volunteers get raincoats to wear, and a big reason for it is because so much water gets spashed or sprayed onto them.

Lovely shot.

I like the angle and blur. Hard to believe that these are cups. Somebody's going to do a lot of cleaning afterwards.

Yes, great angle on this one and the cups create an interesting texture! I like the limited color palette as well.

Thanks so much for your recent comments on my blog. I really appreciate you taking the time to stop by and leave your thoughts.

I've ran through the mess of cups many times. When I was in my late teens and early twenties I was usually reasonably close to being one of the first runners at the water stations so I didn't experience the joy of stepping over lots of cups until later in life. Now I'm never in the front and always get to navigate lots of cups :)

Wow. I've never been to a marathon before. What a mess. I'd hate to be clean that up. It's a cool capture.

Fantastic colors. I love the camera angle. There is something beautiful in that cup being held out in the upper left -- waiting for the next runner to pass. Another great shot Milke!

In the soft focus, it's almost like leaves on the ground after a hard rain. Now that someone pointed it out, I agree that the limited range of colors is what helps make this shot.

This is such a cool shot. The narrow depth of field really woks well. I like it. :)

When I first saw this I was sure it was some sort of Heineken accident with bottles smashed up. Thank god I read your info excellent angle and capture.

Very nice picture. I like the way the cups are littered on the floor.
